IT DIARY: ENTRY 27

COPORATE CULTURE OR CO-OPERATE CULTURE?

It would seem after every writing hiatus, I usually come back with the same phrase, “Oh, how I’ve missed you.” But I do not think it has been quite as serious as now. First off, this time it wasn’t an intentional absence and… you know what? Skip all that.

So what did bring me back to my diary? What happening was so big that I had to re-enter the scribe realm? Stay with me…

It’s been 2 weeks (or just a little longer) since I first got wind of the released academic calendar for school. I must say, I was quite psyched. Although I dare not admit those to the thousand and one classmates of mine who are having the time of their lives doing IT and would love to not resume till… when? August ending? Mid-September? I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can take it.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t learn anything useful here during my internship. However, the most significant ones have been unrelated to the job. One of those has been the reason I almost never get angry. Apparently, I tend to go berserk when I do. I bring things that can almost never be fixed.

Another is, I’m really not ready for the corporate culture… or as I’ve found it to mean; “Co-operate culture”. It would appear everything a superior does is right, and I don’t get to have a side of the story. It would seem I need to learn to not have a reply to everything, and above all, it would seem saying a superior “yelled at me” is disrespectful to him/her, and a more courteous term would be “raised their voice at me”.

All this reminds me of a theory my favorite character Barney Stinson from “How I Met Your Mother” had. It was the circle of yelling… or was it the chain of yelling? The boss yells at the project manager, who yells at you, and you yell at your roommate who’s a kindergarten teacher. She yells at a kid in class, and the kid, who is your boss’ kid, yells at his dad, your boss.

No, diary… I’m not going to yell at anyone. Lol.

If you haven’t already guessed it, I got a stern admonishing from my supervisor for insubordination for the second time in my internship that’s already shorter than it should have been. Perhaps I’m lucky it was cut short. A third may not have ended so “not-so-lightly”. This is weird because I’ve never had such an experience in any of my former jobs or internships. Maybe I’ve just had it easy the entire time and this is just the universe’ way of showing me the flipside.

Whatever it is, it’s almost over. I’m counting down the days (or nights, since I’m on night duty), and Lord help me once I’m done with school. I hope I never again have to face Co-operate culture.

Till the next entry...
